6 Wellness Trends to Explore in 2019

I recently read an article about the wellness trends for this year and realized some of these are already part of my life. A couple of them though will require me to do some more investigation before I give them a go.  Here are a few worth keeping an eye on.

1-Celery Juice

This has exploded as a wellness trend in the past couple months with posts all over social media. Celery Juice is great for digestion, gives a boost of energy and helps our skin look better. Celery is packed with different nutrients and antioxidants while containing anti-inflammatory substances that are thought to help support a healthy gut and protect against cellular damage. So, go ahead and drink this one up. However, we want to be mindful of how much we are consuming, everything in moderation. Keep in mind, just because you had some celery juice in the morning doesn’t mean we don’t need other green vegetables as well later in the day to support a healthy lifestyle.

2-CBD

I’ll admit I don’t know much about this one, but I have seen it everywhere, from skin products to foods. The prediction is that CBD will become more regulated this year and start reaching the mainstream public. And no, it doesn’t get you “high!” Most studies that have been conducted have been done on animals because of the legality of studying the effects of marijuana on people. As it becomes regulated more research will be done on the claims of helping those with seizures and its anti-inflammatory properties to help those with skin conditions. CBD has a major marketing campaign claiming the product can fix many ailments and the World Health Organization deemed it safe to use. There is still a body of research however that needs to be done so I’ll just keep my eye on this one for now.

3-Cauliflower

This cruciferous vegetable has already begun to take over our food aisles! It has shown up as pizza crust, masquerading as rice and even in the frozen food section. Now it’s about to invade the snack aisle as well as a healthy snack option. Cauliflower is high in fiber, which is also a trend people want more of to be healthier, and its easy to adapt into different recipes, making it the perfect fit to incorporate into a snack. This is one trend I’m looking forward to.

4-Working Out at Home

Dare I say I’m a trendsetter?? I have been working out at home for years!! In fact, I’ve even written a blog post about it. I don’t belong to the gym, instead I use DVDS to exercise in my living room and occasionally take a dance class or yoga class. Now though there is so much more than a DVD, there are stationary bikes with streaming classes, streaming services alone that offer a variety of different types of exercise, fitness apps and fitness bands to purchase for enhancing the workout at home. This all makes me very happy as there are little excuses now of why we can’t exercise, so folks move the furniture and let’s go!

5-Meditation

This isn’t a new trend as its been around for a while, but now it’s becoming more accessible. People are realizing the strong benefits of meditation for managing stress, anxiety and depression so meditation is being incorporated into workplace wellness activities and events. There are also apps and streaming technology that bring meditation to our phones and laptops. Even schools are getting in on the trend as they use meditation and mindfulness techniques to help students dealing with stress and anxiety rather than detention. Meditation can be hard to begin, but being guided through an app can really help support people as they learn to focus on their breath.

6-Realizing there is more to Health than Diet and Exercise

Being healthy or creating a healthy lifestyle is so much more than what we eat and how intensely we work out. Again, I’ve been saying this for years!! Apparently, I’ve been ahead in this wellness game. Our daily habits have a real impact on our health. When we have a sense of purpose and meaning this helps us with our positive outlook. Spend time with our family and friends, have some down time and self-care, shut off technology, practice gratitude; these are all aspects of our well-being we need to take care of to create a wellness lifestyle where we can thrive. This trend is one that makes me very excited for the future of wellness!

Which wellness trend are you most excited about for this year?? Your homework is to either try one or research one. And as always if you need some help in your wellness lifestyle, you know where to find me.

Wellness Wednesday,

Tash

My Year in Therapy

It was time to make the call. It was something I had been putting off, but something I knew I needed to do. It was time to get back into therapy. Tell it to Your Journal

Tell it to Your Journal

Writing in my journal has been a habit for me off and on since I was in high school. I don’t have any set routine around it and sometimes I’m not very consistent. I can go months without journaling only to pick it back up when reading a certain spiritual book, working on trauma healing, I need to work something out, or it’s a new moon ritual.
